The American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work in joint sponsorship with The Sanville Institute and the California Society for Clinical Social Work Presents:

Clinical Encounters With Social Justice Issues In A Community Mental Health Clinic

Program Presenter:            Linda Zaretsky, MFT

Date:                                      Saturday, April  22, 2017

Time:                                     10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Reflecting on thirty-five years of working at the Tenderloin clinic in San Francisco, Linda will be using clinical vignettes, historical and autobiographical material as well as music and fiction to explore the intersectionality of the internal worlds and the social surround of clients living in the Tenderloin and the clinicians working with them.

Viewing the self as psycho-social and the social as permeated with symbolic and psychological meanings, Linda will raise the question of what psychoanalysis and depth psychology can contribute to our thinking and practice in our clinics, our offices and in the larger community in these critical times.

This presentation offers the opportunity to share your experiences in and out of the office. Please join us. Your participation is what makes our meetings engaging and special.  Community is central to managing during this trying time.

Linda Zaretsky, MFT, is the Clinical Director of the Tenderloin Clinic in San Francisco, where she recently marked her 35th year.  A political activist in the1960’s, and a psychodynamically oriented therapist for almost that long, Linda has a passionate interest in the confluence of social justice issues and the internal and relational worlds of clients and clinicians living and working in marginalized communities.  Linda also provides clinical consultation to social workers at the hotels and residences in the Tenderloin. Linda has a private practice specializing in working with relatives of family members who are struggling with mental illness. She has received the 2013 Community Service Award given by the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic psychology.
