Dissertations

Dissertations by Sanville Graduates

Since the first graduating class in 1978, the institute granted doctoral degrees to over 110 students whose dissertation topics cover a wide range of clinical and social issues. The Sanville Institute was renown for its qualitative research and an exceptional number of dissertations have become the basis of published books, articles, and further research.

Here you will find the full text of graduates’ dissertations (minus one that was not available to be scanned), as well as Jean Sanville’s own dissertation from International College in Los Angeles.

This is a unique body of research that we want to make available to current and future clinicians and researchers. We invite you to browse through and/or download any of the dissertations. If you spot something that would be relevant to a colleague’s research or interest, please let them know how to access our library.

Note that, depending on when they were written, dissertations refer to the institute’s different names: The Sanville Institute
for Clinical Social Work and Psychotherapy was formerly known as the “Institute for Clinical Social Work” and “The California Institute for Clinical Social Work.”
