The Sanville Institute is pleased to announce a PhD in Clinical Social Work with a specialization in cross cultural issues. This cohort-based program is designed to offer master’s level practitioners advanced clinical training with a particular focus in how culture impacts our work. This flexible student-centered program encourages students to focus upon their particular areas of interest. These might include cultural bias in clinical theory, therapist variables, racial or ethnic identity development, intergenerational trauma, racism, ethnocentrism, islamophobia, social justice initiatives, clinical practice, or disparities in the delivery of clinical services.
The Cross-Cultural Cohort is designed for mid-career licensed or license eligible clinicians whose current clinical work serves as the foundation for Sanville’s unique clinically-based learning modelLike Sanville’s current two programs, the self-paced PhD in Clinical Social Work and Psychotherapy and two-year certificate in the integration of theory and practice in cultural context, the Cross-Cultural Cohort is designed for mid-career licensed or license eligible clinicians whose current clinical work serves as the foundation for Sanville’s unique clinically-based learning model. The cohort program also reflects Sanville’s traditional emphasis upon scholarship and research. This program is designed to allow students to complete the program and their doctoral dissertation within four years. This model encourages students with a common focus to work together in completing their coursework, preparing presentations, and developing their doctoral research. We find that the cohort model is particularly conducive to learning for those working with diversity and multiculturalism.
